Vintage racing thrills set for Cadwell Park

Motor racing's glorious past will be celebrated at this weekend's Vintage Sports Car Festival at Cadwell Park on Sunday.

The summer event will bring the past back to life with the sights and sounds from motoring’s pioneering age on and off the track.

The event features a packed timetable with races for cars covering several decades from the early part of the last century.

Many of the entries will have competed at the classic events in period, including Brooklands, Le Mans and the Mille Miglia, where they were raced for the honour and glory of a gladiatorial sport.

Unlike modern cars, these machines were not designed with safety in mind and there are no seat belts or rollover bars.

Track action is headlined by the annual Shuttleworth, Nuffield and Len Thompson Memorial Trophies race for pre-1961 front-engined racing cars.

VSCC meetings are about more than just racing, and the car park will be a museum in itself, with many examples of pre-war vehicles on display.

Enthusiasts can also indulge their passion with an autojumble, as well as the opportunity to rub shoulders with fellow fans.

Once the racing starts, however, there are fewer spectacles in motorsport greater than vintage racing at Cadwell Park.

Tickets for the Vintage Sports Car Festival at Cadwell Park are available from £15, with free entry for children aged 12 and under.
