Benjamin Ross was caught on CCTV taking the £6.99 bottle from B&M Bargains, on Stockwell Gate, on January 26.

Ross, 31, of Meden Bank, Pleasley, admitted possessing the synthetic drug “mamba” and theft, when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Cheryl Nisbet, of the probation service, said he had refused to engage with his drug worker, and his offender manager said “a short period of custody might stabilise him.”

Magistrate Ann Coxall told Ross he had an “appalling record” and had only just come out of prison when he committed the offences.

“You refused to cooperate with probation and that makes it difficult to give you any other sentence,” she said.
