Volunteers in tow for charity boat pull

A chance to pull a traditional Chesterfield Canal boat was too tempting for some residents, who took a turn at towing the Dawn Rose on a charity pull between Gringley and West Stockwith.

The Dawn Rose was built by volunteers of the Chesterfield Canal Trust to the traditional design, using hand tools only – as in the 1920s.

To help fund its up-keep, Misterton volunteers took a turn at pulling the 70ft engineless boat along the canal – pictured in harness are Rick Brand and Pat Loveless.

Volunteers paid a £50 fee to the Friends of Dawn Rose and everything else raised went to the Guardian Scheme, which aims to preserve the parish church building and so far, £155 has been raised.
