Warning: Bogus caller alert is bogus.

Trading standards had issued a warning yesterday, Tuesday 13th January, that people claiming to be from Nottinghamshire County Council were targeting vulnerable people.

They offered the free detector, and offered the chance for a fire brigade member to inspect their property.

However, the council has contacted the Chad today to say there had been miscommunication between departments and that the callers genuinely were from the council.

Sarah Houlton, team manager in Trading Standards, said: “We received a call from a lady who believed she had been targeted by a bogus caller. The neighbourhood alert was issued in good faith and Trading Standards would continue to advise the public to take precautions when dealing with cold callers.”

Meanwhile, people are being urged to make sure that anyone who cold calls over the phone or visits their house are genuine.

They should have identification if they come to the door, while people are being urged not to give out any details, including bank or peronsal details over the phone.
