Lincolnshire Police said: “A person known as ‘Rick Elliott’ (may use other names) calls to make an appointment to provide a quote for a new air conditioning unit.

“On arriving at the property he provides a glossy magazine and asks for a deposit (around £1,000) for the unit costing £5,000.

“Even though the client uses his right to cancel the contract within the cooling off period, the cheque has still been cashed.

“We have been unable to contact the person from the details given in the brochure and literature.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

Police do not believe that this person has any connection to the Surrey-based company of the same name.

• If you have been contacted by this company, call police on 101 and report the details (quoting incident number 237 of April 9).
