Warning over car key burglaries in Retford

Police are urging owners of high-powered vehicles in Retford to ensure their homes are secure against burglars.
Thieves have forced entry into two homes overnight in the Retford area over the last fortnight.

No vehicles were stolen on these occasions due to the intruders being disturbed by the residents.
Officers believe thieves are targeting addresses with high-value vehicles, such as Audis, Volkswagens and BMWs, parked on the drive.

They break into homes, steal car keys from inside and then steal the vehicle.
A force spokesman said: “To reduce the chance of burglars targeting your home, invest in a burglar alarm, keep valuables out of view and hide your keys.”

“Always ensure the windows and doors of your vehicle and home are closed and locked, and be vigilant and report suspicious activity to police.”

If you think your home may be vulnerable to criminals, contact your local Safer Neighbourhood Team at Retford Police Station on 101.
Anyone with any information about those committing car key burglaries should contact Notts Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
