The local branch of the charity has put out an alert on social media saying a person has been visiting venues in the resort with a collection box.

The Skegness branch said: “It has come to our attention this evening that someone’s visiting pubs and clubs in the local area pretending to collect money in aid of the RNLI.

“The offender has an RNLI collection box but we can confirm that this is a SCAM and not organised by the RNLI.

“We would never collect in this way, collections of this type are pre-organised with pub owners and are carried out by clearly identifiable official volunteer staff.

“If you see anything suspicious please do feel free to contact the local police on 101.”
