Warning over storing fuel

Residents should not store petrol or diesel in their properties or cars, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have warned.

Following recent announcements of the Fuel Tankers strike, firefighters recognise the potential exists for the inappropriate storage of petrol and similar fuels being stored in vehicles and garages at domestic premises.

They have warned that Petroleum Spirit must never be stored inside a domestic property under any circumstances because of the high level of risk posed by petrol and the highly flammable vapours it releases.

Assistant chief fire officer Neil Hessell said “The potential dangers are just too big a risk for you and your family. It is advisable that the fuel stocks that you have are conserved by avoiding unnecessary journeys and by the adoption of other fuel saving measures that are encouraged by driving agencies.”
