Wyberton 3 Nettleham 0

Joe Greswell believes his Wyberton side can mix it with the best in the Lincs League.

The Colts boss has been impressed with his side’s attitude in recent games, especially Saturday’s 3-0 Supplementary Cup win over October Team of the Month Nettleham.

Jamie Elston, Daniel White and Jason Wade were on target at The Causeway, while James Doughty made a penalty save.

“I can’t say enough good things about Nettleham,” Greswell said.

“To be fair to them, they came here had a lot of the ball and wanted to play the right way.

“We respected that and spoke before the game about how we would play against them. The lads listened and were brilliant.

“The scoreline shows that. Was it a 3-0 game? Probably not, but I will take it.”

Turning his attention to Doughty’s penalty save, Greswell added: “Jim made a good penalty save at 2-0.

“If they score it’s a hard 20 minutes for us, but luck was on our side.

“Since the Lincoln United Reserves result, when I questioned if the boys wanted it or not, they have responded in the correct way and showed me they are capable of competing with the best in this league.”

Wyberton felt they had a perfectly good goal disallowed after Ben Jaques found the net, but White was flagged offside in the build-up.

But they responded in the right manner as Elston fired home a free kick on 10 minutes.

White added the second when he chipped the Nettles keeper after working hard to win possession.

Nettleham asked a lot of questions as they hit the post before half time, but luck was going Wyberton’s way.

The second half was end-to-end stuff, Wyberton hit the bar and Nettleham had a lot of the ball but couldn’t found a way through.

The away side were awarded a penalty for handball with 20 minutes to go, but Doughty saved to his right.

Wade made sure that Wyberton progressed to the next round when he slotted home a through ball from Ryan Richardson.

Wyberton travel to Lincoln Moorlands on Saturday for a Lincs League fixture (KO 3pm).
