The water company confirmed the news this afternoon (Thursday) and said the lane closure on the southbound carriageway of the A16 at Bargate roundabout with Spilsby Road and John Adams Way will remain in place for the duration of the works.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “Work is continuing on John Adams Way to repair the water main there. It has been a significant engineering challenge with a number of other essential utilities and services under the road and sitting on top of our damaged main that we must navigate.

“We have to be extremely careful when working around these other pipes and cables to ensure they are not damaged, and that can make work slower than we would like.

“Unfortunately we will need to continue working throughout next week. We expect to be finished by 7th December and will be doing everything possible to finish earlier than that.

“Customers’ water supplies are not affected, but we do understand that we’re working on a main road (A16). One lane of the John Adams southbound carriageway remains open to keep travel disruption to a minimum.

“We are grateful to customers and road users for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused by this lane closure.”

The water main burst on November 11, causing huge traffic delays around the town as it coincided with other works.
