Is this the way to Santiago?

A GLOBE-TROTTING Worksop woman is set to take on the challenge of walking over 150 miles across Portugal and Spain to raise money for our adopted charity.

Holisitic therapist Maria Batty is just weeks away from walking from Porto in Portugal to Santiago de Compostela in Spain as a fundraiser for Worksop’s Aurora Wellbeing Centre.

Maria was born in Spain but has been living in England for 35 years.

“The route that I’ll be walking was one taken by Portuguese pilgrims - so I thought I might as well have a go and do it for a worthwhile cause,” said Maria.

“I chose Aurora because it’s local and they have some great ideas about setting up the old library as a care centre.”

She continued: “I have worked with cancer patients before and I really admire what Aurora are doing - it will be a great asset for the local community here in Worksop.”

Maria predicts that the 150 mile trek will take her 10-12 days. She hopes to reach a sponsorship target of £1,000.
