WEATHER WARNING: Met Office say winds of up to 70mph set to hit region until Sunday

The Met Office has issued a ‘yellow warning’ with winds of up to 70 mph set to hit the region for the rest of week.

Disruptions to travel services are expected, with motorists warned to ‘drive with care’ and to ‘avoid exposed roads’.

A chief forecaster at the Met Office said: “A depression is expected to deepen and move towards Iceland during Friday, with the associated frontal zone expected to affect the UK throughout Saturday before clearing away eastwards on Sunday morning.

“There is some uncertainty in the inland extent of the strongest winds so this alert will be kept under review and updated as necessary.”
