Weather warnings as more snow arrives in Bassetlaw

The heaviest snow is likely to fall this afternoon and tonight which could settle up to 5cm on the ground.

Snow flurries are expected to begin from around 2pm becoming more widespread during the afternoon.

Combined with the wind, it could create blizzard conditions.

Temperatures will remain below freezing all day, with a low of 2C.

The Met Office has issued amber severe weather warnings across much of the country, advising people to be prepared for disruption and only travel if necessary.

The warnings are in place until at least 9pm across large parts of central, western and southern England and Wales, as well as Northern Ireland.

Motorists are urged to stay off the roads and warned to travel if only absolutely essential.

Met Office spokesman Dan Williams said: “We will see widespread snow across the country on Friday morning, just in time for rush hour.”

“Most places will see 2cm to 5cm of snow and Western areas and Scotland will see 10cm to 15cm of snow.

“There will be fairly strong winds so snow will drift around so we’ll see blizzard-like conditions, which could potentially cause transport disruptions.”

He added: “People should be prepared to change their plans and don’t travel unless it’s absolutely necessary.”

“There could be chaos on the roads and trains so check before you travel and keep up to date on any changes. The rest of the weekend will be slightly warmer and drier.”

Currently there is no disruption to the road network or public transport in Bassetlaw, and no schools have had to close because of the weather.
