A review of polling districts and polling places is currently underway and the district council is particularly interested in offering reasonable facilities for both able bodied and disabled voters.

Leader of the council, Coun Jeff Summers, said: “In reality this is not always possible and we have little choice about premises which are fully accessible or indeed conveniently located for voters in the area.”

“However, we are conducting a review of all polling places and paying particular attention to availability of parking and disabled parking as well as the approaches to buildings in terms of non-slip surfaces, gradients and lighting,” he added.

Coun Summers also pointed out that where the choice of fully accessible premises is restricted, as in smaller communities and villages, then any voter can now apply for a postal vote.

Currently the number of voters who have their ballot papers sent through the postal system on a long-term arrangement is 10,500.

Council ward members have also been asked for their views on current polling stations and where any chances could be made.

Polling districts can also be changed by moving some of the streets into another area within the ward.

This also applies to some of the larger villages and communities.

Written comments from the public on all of the Returning Officers proposals are now being invited.

Any comments should be in writing and must be received at the council before Friday 28th February.

All correspondence should be addressed to the Returning Officer, West Lindsey District Council, The Guildhall, Marshall’s Yard, Gainsborough DN21 2NA.
