West Lindsey: District council warn residents to watch out for illegal fly tipping

Fly-tippers who are caught can expect to pay a substantial fine and/or face a prison sentence of up to five years.

The householder could also be landed with a fine of up to £5,000.

Coun Jessie Milne, chair of the council’s Licensing and Regulatory Committee, said: “Now is the time that people may be thinking about having a clear out before Christmas.”

“Residents must make sure they know where their rubbish is being taken.”

“Legal action will be taken against anyone whose waste is found fly tipped.”

Scrap dealers also have to be licensed along with other waste carriers and householders must see accreditation to avoid legal action.

If anyone is unsure as to the validity of this, they can contact the Environment Agency or West Lindsey District Council.

Coun Milne added: “West Lindsey covers 450 square miles and it is difficult to cover all parts of the district.”

“That is why we need the public to help us identify offenders.”

“I would urge anyone who witnesses or has knowledge of illegal fly-tipping to contact the council as soon as possible.”
