West Lindsey: Help decide how developer charges will work

You can help decide as part of a consultation by West Lindsey District Council.

The authority wants residents’ views on the level of charges developers should pay .

The new charge, called a community infrastructure levy (CIL), will replace some section 106 agreements and be used to support growth by paying for infrastructure and local facilities like cycle paths and playgrounds.

The six week consultation runs until 5pm on Monday 9th September 2013.

As the Standard has been reporting, the council is part of the Central Lincolnshire Joint Strategic Planning Committee (CLJPC) alongside several other local authorities.

A spokesman for WLDC said it was looking to set up a CIL charging schedule at the same level as North Kesteven and City of Lincoln Councils.

“CIL would be payable by the majority of new housing developments and some retail developments,” they said.

“Once adopted it will give developers a clear understanding of the expected financial contributions towards community infrastructure needs, and support more streamlined project delivery by infrastructure providers. Once implemented it is not negotiable.”

Coun David Cotton said anyone with an interest in development in West Lindsey should get involved in the consultation.
