Wickes store burglary

POLICE are keen to hear from anyone who may have been offered decking, sheds and fencing after a north Notts DIY store was burgled on Tuesday morning.

It is believed that two men cut through the fence at the Wickes store in Sandy Lane, in Worksop, at around 12.30am on 14th February.

A police spokesman said: “Although CCTV evidence does not give a clear image of either offender, it does confirm that they were on the scene for almost two hours.”

“During that time they removed sheds, decking and meshing and piled it next to the hole they had made in the fence, which backs on to a neighbouring car showroom.”

“We then passed the items through the fence to land housing garages at the rear of Sandy Lane, between the car showroom and Grafton Street.”

The men left the scene at 2.20am.

It is thought they may have loaded the items into a white Ford Transit van which was seen on a town centre camera at 2.23am.

The van is seen travelling away from Sandy Lane and turns into Sandhill Flats before disappearing from view.

Investigating officer PC Jay Stebel appealed for anyone wityh information to come forward.

“These individuals spent some considerable time at the scene, so there is every chance that someone living in the houses close by may have heard some activity at the store and saw the offenders in the act of stealing these goods,” he said.

“Someone may have heard a van being started and driven in the very early hours of the morning. You may have seen the van and even noted all or part of its number plate. If so, we’d like to hear from you.”

“We’d also like to hear from anyone who may have been offered sheds, decking timber or fencing in the last couple of days, or are offered it in the coming days and weeks.”

He urged anyone with any information to call 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
