After the story went out on The Standard’s website yesterday, Donna Haile wrote on the Boston Standard’s Facebook wall: “The train driver is my lovely husband and he is ok and it’s very sad for the family concerned, he is far more compassionate than I am though I’m afraid.

“I suppose people just think it’s a train, they don’t consider the driver, the guard or the 30plus passengers that are stranded in the middle of nowhere for hours and the team that deal with the aftermath.”

She added: “Still sad though to feel that you have no other option. Go and kiss your family Face-bookers and count your blessings.”

East Midlands Trains tweeted out yesterday that services between Sleaford and Skegness had been disrupted this evening due to the person being ‘hit by a train’ at Heckington.

Several people commented with sympathy for the driver’s involved in such incidents ahead of Mrs Haile’s comment.

Alana Jones wrote: “I hope the train driver is k! Its them who I feel sorry for.”

Kat Azkaban Szaban added: “They get scarred for life.”

On The Sleaford Standard’s Facebook Kristie Pilsworth wrote: “So sad, but this seems to be happening so frequently at the moment.”

Further details are yet to be released.
