Win a carvery at Pickwicks pub

PICK of the pubs this week is Worksop’s Pickwicks Pub which is offering the chance to win a fantastic Sunday carvery for two - with a bottle of wine thrown in.

Husband and wife team Paul and Janet Woolley took over the Central Avenue pub three months ago and say they are already starting to see regulars coming through the door.

Paul said they have given Pickwicks a fantastic makeover and that they have plenty of plans for expansion over the next year.

“Pickwicks had suffered a bit of a beating when we took it on but we have turned it round, taking it from a one star hygiene rating to the maximum five in a short space of time,” he said.

“We have really cleaned the place from top to bottom and it’s got a brand new driver behind it now - we have really turned it around.”

Paul added he is backing our newly-launched Support Our Pubs campaign to give local pubs a helping hand in these difficult times.

“I think it’s a really fantastic campaign - people need to come and support their local pubs or they just won’t survive,” he said.

“It’s a two-way task - we will do our best to offer a really good service, but people need to come in and support what their local pub is doing.”

As well as enjoying a varied range of lagers, beers, wines and spirits, customers can also take advantage of Pickwicks’ extensive food range - all freshly cooked to order. Said Paul: “Janet and I have got an extensive background specialising in catering and we plan to introduce many more new dishes as we expand.”

For just £5 you can choose between a pint and a meal or two meals from the tasty menu, which features a range of exciting dishes such as sweet and sour chicken, hoisin duck and noodles, pasta bolognese and chicken enchiladas.

They also offer 10oz cod, chips and peas for £3.50 as well as vegetable quiches and jacket potatoes packed with tasty fillings for those wanting a lighter bite.

At just £9.95 for two people, you can load up on beef, gammon and pork complete with roast and mashed potato, fresh vegetables, yorkshire puddings with lashings of exeptional home-made gravy.

There are also plenty of facilities to keep children amused, as well as large TV screens and venue rooms to hire for all events from parties to weddings.

The pub is open 12 noon-2pm and 6pm-12 midnight Monday to Friday and 12 noon-12 midnight on Saturday and Sunday.
