The village is situated on the Viking Way long-distance trail, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and many of the day’s walks make good use of this well-maintained route.

The nine and a half mile Round the Tower Circular starts at 10.30am, using the impressive Belmont TV tower as its hub. History buffs will enjoy interpreting Donington on Bain at 10.45am and 1.30pm, which reveals the layers of history hidden beneath today’s village and is suitable for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and pushchairs.

Everyone’s invited to the Family Exploring Walk at 11m, to discover what creatures are hidden in the undergrowth, lurking in the stream or flying overhead.

At 11.30am: Almost Everest - will be led by Louth-based Tracy Salkeld, who climbed to Everest Base Camp in 2015 to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

This seven and a half mile route includes a lunch stop at Red Hill Nature Reserve and doesn’t feature any mountains.

The village and surroundings have some fascinating industrial history, Railways and Radar at 12.30pm will take walkers on a seven-mile exploration of some of the key features.

Vikings and Volunteers at 1pm will celebrate the Viking Way on a five-mile hike, showcasing some of the work of Lincolnshire County Council’s countryside access volunteer scheme which is now in its fourth year.

The first group of walkers to set off will have pre-booked to walk the 75-mile Lincs Wolds Way during the festival.

Walkers will cover the epic route over 6 days, starting at the launch.

All other walks are free, just turn up on the day.
