Woman in-debt stole Xbox and Playstation consoles

A Retford woman with mental health issues resorted to theft after a payday loans debt spiralled out of control.

Gayle Carter, 27, of Briar Lea, admitted to stealing Xbox and Playstation accessories from Asda on June 9, June 26 and July 7.

Mansfield magistrates heard that Carter was seen on CCTV taking the items.

She told police she had sold them on to pay off her debts.

The court heard she was a psychiatric out-patient and had been struggling on benefits. She was unable to pay back a loan for a sofa and had started to receive letters. She was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and told to pay £400 compensation.
