Woman’s body found at Crags

Police are investigating the death of a woman at Creswell Crags.

The woman’s body was found in the river at the crags just before 6.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 28th August).

She is believed to be a 54-year-old woman from Notts but a formal identification has not yet been carried out.

Officers are keeping an open mind about the circumstances around her death. A post mortem examination will be carried out to determine how she died.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Sproson, from Derbyshire Constabulary, said: “Unfortunately we have had to ask for the crags to be closed to the public while we continue our enquiries.”

“We apologise for any inconvenience to tourists and local people.”
