The honour is especially great as the Russell and Sadie Hirst of R J Hirst High Class Family Butchers are the only butchers in the county to reach this stage, with other finalists coming from Norfolk, Essex and Suffolk.

Sadie Hirst said: “We were the only butcher to achieve highly commended finalist in Lincolnshire and only one of three businesses for the county across all categories, so Russell and I are delighted.”

The Awards, fondly known as the Rural Oscars, are the Countryside Alliance’s annual celebration of rural produce, skills, enterprise and heritage through small, hard-working businesses.

They are now in their twelfth year and have become the definitive rural business award to win.

Countryside Alliance Awards director Jill Grieve said: “For these finalists to get this far is an exceptional achievement.

“The Rural Oscars were set up to champion those who go the extra mile for their communities and it is an honour to offer a voice to a small rural business in this way.”
