Work surge for traders

Members of trade vetting service Checkatrade, which has an office in Mansfield, have reaped serious dividends as a result of their partnership with Nottinghamshire Trading Standards, the county council and the police.

The new initiative, one of eight similar schemes created by Checkatrade across the UK, was only launched in December 2015 but already the service’s accredited members in the county are so busy they are having to turn away new work.

Consumers looking to engage traders to work on their homes and businesses use the unique Checkatrade.com platform to check the credentials and customer feedback of traders pitching for work.

With their Nottinghamshire traders now struggling to meet public demand for their services, Checkatrade wants traders yet to benefit from membership to apply to join up.

Checkatrade is at the forefront of the fight against rogue traders and sets a very high bar for prospective members but offer members fantastic opportunities that follow an accreditation from both itself and Trading Standards.

As members can prove their reputation and the quality of their workmanship, they tend to win a much higher proportion of their quotes.

Checkatrade’s sponsoring of ITV’s Good Morning Britain and Channel 5’s Cowboy Builders and advertising widely across the UK means that members stand to gain from exposure to over 1.3 million consumers visiting Checkatrade.com each month.

In comparison, the cost of membership - the equivalent of £14 + VAT per week and potentially spread over four to six months – represents great value for money and a transformative investment in the future of a member’s business.

Leon Livermore, Chartered Trading Standard Institute chief executive said: “It is important that we help consumers make informed choices and protect them from rogues. Nottinghamshire Trading Standards’ partnership with Checkatrade.com ensures that people living in the area have access to reliable, vetted businesses.”

Checkatrade ambassador and TV DIY expert, Craig Phillips says of the partnership, “This is a great opportunity for the tradespeople of Nottinghamshire to experience what Checkatrade can do to help them in their business. This also helps their customers in the East Midlands rest assured that they’re getting the very best, certified work completed on time by Trading Standards vetted businesses.”

Every customer feedback is read by Checkatrade.com before being made live. So far this year 81% of all customer feedback forms have been independently spot checked and verified to make sure the jobs and rating are genuine. In the last 12 months more than 12,000,000 people visited the website to find a recommended, vetted and monitored trader.
