Joyce Malbon, of Windmill Lane, was surprised with the accolade on her 90th birthday at her home in July.

The caring grandmother was nominated by Carol Chambers, who has lives next door to Joyce and has known her for 20 years.

Carol told the Guardian: “Joyce is more than a friend now, she has become part of the family. She is always offering to do my washing and ironing, and bring cakes round which she bakes herself.

“She has two daughters, three grandchildren and a great grandchild and is always running around after them, keeping busy and making sure the people she loves are ok.
“The amount of work she takes on is amazing, to say she’s 90. When I gave Joyce the rose, she was gobsmacked and didn’t think she deserved it. But I can’t think of anyone else who deserves a thank you more.”

Joyce described receiving the rose as ‘lovely’.

Our Guardian Roses are generously donated by florist Walker’s House of Flowers, located in Worksop’s Priory Shopping Centre.
