Worksop: A Guardian Rose for Shannon’s ‘inspirational’ nan

For 15-year-old Shannon Rushton, her nan is one of the most important people in her life.

From taking her on trips, to cooking her meals, to always being there for her every minute of every day.

Which is why this week’s Guardian Rose - from House of Flowers in Worksop - has been presented to Beverley Spolander, 53, of Abbey Street, Worksop.

“She has been like a second mum to me ever since I was a baby,” Shannon said.

“She would break her neck to help anyone out.”

“She has cared and looked after everyone in the family at some point.”

“We are all proud of her and she is an inspiration to me.”

“I never want to lose her.”

Shannon, of Waverley Place, attends Portland Academy and is in the final year of her studies.

She added: “I am always round her house, two or three times a week after school.”

“She always make me tea and gives me money.”

And it is not just Shannon who appreciates kind-hearted Beverley.

Her best friend Kath said: “Bev is one of those true friends you can always depend on. Even when she was struggling with her own family bereavement she still took time out to console me. She is a true a gem.”

Family members Georgia. Callum and Caitlyn also wrote her a special message wrote: “Nanan is nice and amazing. Because everyone very much loves her. She puts everyone before herself. We love nana Bev.”
