Billy Stuart, 23, was given a 12-month community order and ordered to do 90 hours of unpaid work at Worksop Magistrates’ Court after admitting attacking Tina Kelly and Gemma Pitt last year.

He was also ordered to pay £50 compensation to Miss Pitt, £100 compensation to Miss Kelly and £250 costs.

The court heard that on the night of the incident, Stuart had come into contact with Miss Kelly in an alleyway and pushed her to the ground, causing her to suffer a sprained ankle, bruising and cuts to her head.

Miss Pitt then came down the alley to find her friend and was also pushed over by Stuart, and scraped her face on the wall, suffering brusing and a black eye.

Stuart, of Waverley Place, Worksop, was arrested and admitted to the assaults but also told police he had been ‘a bit tipsy having had five or six pints of lager’ that night.

Wayne Wallis, prosecuting, also told the court that Stuart had a previous conviction for Actual Bodily Harm in 2010, for which he had also recieved a 12-month community order.

Liz Easton, representing the Probation Service, said that the fact Stuart had completed that previous community order showed he could comply with court orders. They also regarded Stuart as a low-level harm threat and that his level of likelihood to re-offend was also low.

Defending, David Grant said: “It seems clear that he had had too much to drink and this caused him to react badly to a situation when there was no need for confrontation.”
