Worksop: Assault victim in ‘critical but stable condition’, police say

A 31-year-old man is in a ‘critical but stable condition’ after being the victim of an assault in Worksop at the weekend, police say.

The victim, named in court today as Daniel Cutts, has been placed in a medically-induced coma, and may need further operations to ease the pressure on his brain.

Today at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court, Jo Chadd, outlining the case for the prosecution, said: “If he does survive, it will be life-altering at least.”

Unemployed Worksop man, Steven Paul Hancock, 23, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm has been remanded on bail.

Dressed in blue tracksuit bottoms and white t-shirt, he gave his address to the court as Yeoman Close, which is understood to be his mother’s home.

He did not enter a plea.

Mr Hancock was denied bail and was led away from the dock in handcuffs.

Police closed the Gateford Road area of the town on Saturday morning after the serious assault at 3.40am on 20th June.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward as they look to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
