Karen, an optical assistant at the Worksop branch of Specsavers, battled her way through the Pretty Muddy obstacle course at Clumber Park in honour of Kamal Aftab recently.

Optometrist Kamal, who died of Leukaemia in August 2015 aged just 32, was dedicated to volunteering throughout his life- running marathons, climbing mountains and raising thousands for charity. He was also voted the ‘National UK Guardian Volunteer of the Year’ for 2014-2015 and even continued his fundraising for Leukaemia by taking part in a marathon within his hospital room after diagnosis and discovering that he only had a 50 per cent chance of survival. At the time of his death, he was about 10 miles into his pedometer-powered marathon, and had raised close to £15,000 of his £50,000 target.

Specsavers store director Richard Bevan said:”We couldn’t be more proud of Karen completing the race in Kamal’s memory. He is truly missed by us all.”
