Worksop: Centre Parcs chiefs back plans to expand Robin Hood train line

The Robin Hood Line is operated by East Midlands Trains, and currently runs services between Worksop and Nottingham through Mansfield, Sutton, Kirkby, Mansfield Woodhouse, Shirebrook and Langwith.

And now Center Parcs chiefs have backed calls for the extension of the line from Mansfield to Edwinstone and Ollerton.

The company’s support for the project came the wake of revived calls by local campaigns and as Sherwood MP Mark Spencer urged Chancellor George Osborne to find money for the project.

Martin Dalby, Center Parcs chief executive, said: “Center Parcs employs over 1,750 people in this part of Notts and we welcome over 400,000 guests each year, so we would welcome any improvement to public transport links.”

“We think that the extension of the Robin Hood line would represent a fantastic investment for the local area and would give a huge boost to the local economy.”

Center Parcs Head Office is based on the Ollerton Energy Village, which has been projected as a potential site for a station along the Robin Hood Line. The company says its Sherwood Forest holiday park would also benefit from the project, creating jobs in the local area.

MP for Sherwood Mark Spencer said: “I’m delighted that local employers like Center Parcs are backing us in our campaign to make this project happen.”
