Worksop: College takes on challenge

The Expedition, which involved Year 11 to UVIth Form students, set off in July for a 30 day adventure in South America. The group travelled as part of World Challenge, an organisation which offers young people the chance to explore the world and experience different cultures, developing valuable life skills.

Students had to fund their trips themselves with an array of novel ways to raise money including Will Clothier who put his cookery skills to work and baked and sold bread and cooked for dinner parties.

Helen Platt-Hawkins, one of the Expedition leaders, said: “After a long day travelling from Nicaragua to Costa Rica, the team spent a few days in Monteverde, exploring the cloud forest, where there is variety of exotic flora and fauna.

Here students were able to take in a canopy tour in the form of a zip-line activity. On the outskirts of San Hose the team also embarked on a day of white water rafting. Everyone eventually ended up in the river under the close supervision of leaders and instructors.”
