Worksop: College teams up with manufacturing firm to recruit new apprentices
Explore Manufacturing in Steetley, Worksop, is part of Laing O’Rourke – an international engineering and construction group working across a wide range of sectors.
Michelle Howell, senior human resources advisor at the company, said: “We are committed to attracting people into the construction and engineering industries and our apprenticeship programme in partnership with North Notts College is an important aspect of that work.”

Hide Ad“We are looking for up to 10 young people who will start on site this summer and will go to college on day release to complete their performing manufacturing operations apprenticeship.”
“It was important for us to work with the college to maintain our close links with the community and provide valuable work and training opportunities for local young people to address potential skills shortages in the future.”
Explore Manufacturing is one of Europe’s largest and most advanced precast concrete facilities, manufacturing a range of products including walls, floors, columns, beams and station platforms for Laing O’Rourke projects throughout the UK. The components are designed specifically for each project, manufactured in the factory and then assembled on site.
Programme manager at the college, Kath Thorpe, said “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people, including our own students, to gain nationally recognised qualifications and valuable work experience at company which is revolutionising the process of construction.”
