The evening on Gateford Road, which starts at 7pm on 7th March, is being organised by two Shireoaks and Steetley pitmen.

Music will be provided by Worksop Miners’ Welfare Band and London Band The Earwigs. Entertainment will also be provided by other special guests. Entrance to the event is free, although a small donation to cover costs is recommended.

George Bell said; “We have lost some real stalwarts in the last few years and hopefully we can remember them all.”

“Pit work was a way of life for thousands of people in the area and now it has gone, the region is worse off.”

“It is good to recall the contribution people made. None of us are getting much younger and soon no one will be left to tell the tale.”

Phil Whitehead said: “It is important to continue recalling the part that coal mining played in local communities and the 30th anniversary of the return to work provides us with that opportunity”.
