Worksop: Community centre project gets £16,000 cash boost

The refurbishment project at the Priorswell Community Centre, which was awarded a Biffa Award, will create a fully accessible community facility.

The Worksop Priory and Gatehouse Community Trust’s aim is to increase the usage of the building as a base for volunteering and enterprise activities, meetings, events and private parties.

The works will include the fitting of carpets to the bare floorboards and additional heating units in the main halls, along with thermal work to three doors to improve heat retention and comfort. These steps plus the installation of a master key system will improve the experience for community groups using the space.

Nicolas Spicer, chairman of Priorswell Community Centre, said: “We are delighted to receive this funding to further enhance the Old Abbey School and ensure the viability of the building and organisation.”

Catherine Burn, director of Bassetlaw Community and Voluntary Service, said: “Once completed this project will benefit both our organisation and the wider community. The completed works will make the building more comfortable and in turn create a more attractive venue for the community to utilise and visit.”
