Worksop: Former jailed cop Graham Storr reveals all in new book

Graham Storr, 73, who now lives in Worksop, served 25 years with South Yorkshire Police but was jailed in 1984 over a £1.5m fraud case.

He took bribes from a crooked businessman, including cash and holidays and also helped set-up an arson attack on a private school to help the criminal mastermind.

‘Booper’ was sentenced to five years for corruption amongst other offences in the 1980s.

During his time behind bars he wrote his first book, Booper’s Tale, in which he laid bare policing in South Yorkshire in the sixties, describing a career in detail that many of his ex-colleagues wished had not been made public.

Now back with his next book, Booper’s Prison Tale, he shares the highs and lows, the dramas and the heartache of a prison sentence.

In the opening chapter, Booper explains what a senior prison officer at Her Majesty’s Prison Strangeways Manchester said to him.

“We’ve shown you in our records as a scrap metal dealer from Rotherham,” the officer said. “If they find out in here who you really are - you’re dead and the place will go up in flames.”

Describing himself as a ‘reformed character’ the married dad-of-two, who has two grandchildren, was later told: “watch your back because some of the worst b******* in the country are here and they would love to do you some harm.”

He joined South Yorkshire police in 1963 when he was 19 and was nicknamed Booper because he looked like a child of that name who advertised sweets on TV.

His book also includes his thoughts on the Hillsborough Disaster.
