Worksop: Help is on the cards for ‘deathtrap’ road after campaign from residents

A concerned resident who warned that someone could be killed on his road due to congestion says he is ‘overjoyed’ that his campaign for help has been successful.

Alan Hardwick, of Stubbing Lane, Worksop, collected around 200 signatures from residents who complained that the street had become a ‘dumping ground’ for vehicles.

The residents then met with Coun Kevin Greaves, Coun Sylvia May and Coun Julie Leigh, of Notts County Council, to voice their concerns.

Said Alan: “For years now we have been fighting for a resident parking scheme on Stubbing Lane as the congestion is making our street a deathtrap, endangering the lives of kids and elderly people in our area.”

“It’s a terrifying thought but it’s only a matter of time before there’s an accident.”

“Just yesterday I counted 24 cars parked here- it’s got to a point where even buses are struggling to get through.”

“The council have assured us that this will be finished once and for all.”

“Apparently, work to install a resident parking scheme will commence in August.

We are overjoyed about it as things are finally progressing.”

Coun Kevin Greaves, who met with the residents in 2013 and has since been backing the campaign, said the problems would soon be a thing of the past.

“I can confirm that a resident parking scheme is definitely going ahead.”

“There will be a meeting at Worksop Rugby Club on Wednesday 28th May to discuss the project with the public invited to attend.”

“This is a legal procedure, which takes time- but work will be commencing later this year.”

Ian Parker, of Notts County Council, said: “Residents were consulted earlier this year on whether they wanted a residents’ parking scheme or not.”

“We had 43 responses back, which is a 60 percent response rate, and of those 100 percent were in favour of a scheme.

“The next stage is to design that scheme and carry out further consultation, which we are hoping to do in the summer.”
