The Worksop girls will be there after they featured in one of Miss Porter’s TV documentaries about how they cared for their friend Sarah Galley-Stedmans up to her death last Christmas at the age of 41.

“Dawn has been asked to host this ball and she’s invited us as her guests of honour after she came to Worksop and did a documentary for Sky about how we looked after Sarah,” said Sarah Rose, one of the group who cared for Sarah.

“We stayed in touch ever since and when she was asked to host this ball for breast cancer, she said ‘I know a great group of girls who should be at this event’ and so we are going.”

“I’ve dedicated the ball to them because I have never seen such a fine example of female friendship as I did when I went to Worksop,” added Miss Porter.

“Her best mates surrounded her, nursed her and made her laugh right up until the very last minute.”

“It blew me away, and is an example of female friendship at it’s very. very best.”

“Since Sarah passed away I have stayed in touch with the other girls, and now, all these years later, I thought they deserved a party.”

“It’s going to be an extraordinary event, there will be a couple of Spice Girls coming along, although I don’t know who yet, some other surprise guests and Chris O’Dowd, who is married to Dawn, is doing the raffle on the night,” continued Miss Rose.

“And because we are there as Dawn’s guests of honour, we will be having all our hotels paid for because Dawn is doing this in memory of Sarah and also to honour us as a group of friends for looking after her.”

“There are six of us going in all and we’ll in our best evening wear and get to walk along the red carpet.

“It’s going to be really nice and it’s so good of Dawn to think of us like this because she could have had some of her own friends there but she said that straight away she thought of us and invited us.”
