Bassetlaw Council has put together proposals aimed at enhancing visitor experience and attracting some big name retailers.
The blueprints focus on improving the appearance of certain areas of the town, creating additional quality space for businesses and reducing the number of empty shops.
The announcement comes after business owners and shoppers provided feedback at a council consultation in May.
Deputy leader at Bassetlaw Council, Coun Jo White, said: “It is about making Worksop a vibrant place for people to come and shop, and experience the culture. We also want people to come to Worksop to work and live.”
“By working with partners we can improve business and help the town thrive.
“It is part of a new era.”
The main focus of the council’s ‘intervention strategy’ involves refurbishing and repairing historic buildings at the top of Bridge Street to help attract investment from the leisure and entertainment industry and increase the number of bars and restaurants.
As part of this, a bid of £1million has been submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) with a view to carrying out the work. A second bid has also been submitted to HLF for the second phase of the Creative Village which will provide up to 10 additional state of the art offices and spaces.
The council plans to install new sign-posted gateways to help visitors find their way around easily and work with the Priory Centre in helping to attract major retailers.
David Aunins, manager at the Priory Centre, said: “We are working in partnership with the council on improving directional signage to the centre and investigating the potential to release additional retail floor space. The council has been exceptionally supportive and we will confirm plans and share further information when we are in a position to do so.”
Last month the council also purchased the Middleton’s site, on Bridge Street, at auction for £260,000.
