Worksop: Man admits smashing court and council windows

David Hatton, 33, of Monmouth Road, damaged five windows at the court, causing £1,000 worth of damage on 1st March.

He also damaged a window to the value of £200 at Bassetlaw Council.

He was found in possession of a ‘small amount’ of cannabis and failed to surrender to police bail on 16th April and failed to answer to bail as soon as practicable.

The court heard that Hatton, who accepted all charges, was ‘angry with himself’ and he dealt with the anger by smashing the windows. He was sober at the time.

In mitigation, it was said that he did not want to cause harm to anyone and he handed himself into police.

The court also heard that Hatton has been subject to a hospital order for four-and-a-half years and has mental health issues and dyslexia.

Hatton received a 12-month conditional discharge, ordered to pay £500 compensation to Nottingham Magistrates’ Court and £100 to Bassetlaw Council.
