Worksop: Man chased down street with plastic water pipe, court hears

Two Worksop brothers admitted threatening behaviour after a confrontation with a man in a busy street ended with one of them chasing him brandishing a plastic pipe.

Antony David Newbury and his brother Johnny, of Longfellow Drive, pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. Antony Newbury also pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon - a piece of pipe -in a public place.

The court heard the pair had driven to Bridge Place, Worksop, on the afternoon of May 23 to confront the man who it is alleged had made extemely abusive comments towards their sister and thrown a can of drink at her car.

The two brothers were seen on CCTV stopping their car outside Yates’s pub and confronting the man.

The court heard the man allegedly reacted by punching Johnny Newbury.

David Newbury then ran back to the car and returned with a piece of plastic water pipe which he swang at the man as he chased him through the street.

The man then made his escape.

The case was adjourned until August 19 for sentencing.
