Steven Paul Hancock (23) appeared before Mansfield Magistrates this morning, Monday 22nd June, to answer to the charge following an early-morning altercation at the weekend.

Dressed in blue tracksuit bottoms and white t-shirt, he gave his address to the court as Yeoman Close, which is understood to be his mother’s home.

He did not enter a plea.

Briefly outlining the case for the Crown Prosecution Service, Jo Chadd said the victim of the assault that took place at around 3.30am on Sunday morning suffered a double haematoma from a single punch to the head.

Named in court as Daniel Cutts, she told the magistrates that the victim has been placed in a medically-induced coma, and may need further operations to ease the pressure on his brain.

She added: “If he does survive, it will be life-altering at least.”

Mr Hancock was denied bail and was led away from the dock in handcuffs.

He is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court via videolink on 6th July.
