Worksop: Man fined after threatening to burn down ex-girlfriend’s house

Adam Clifton, of Northumbria Close in Worksop, pleaded guilty to making the threats against Emma Hollingsworth last month after a row over possessions, particularly a DVD player.

The court heard that the pair had been arguing, which led the police being called and her being arrested.

When she returned to the house, she found Clifton had taken some possessions from the house and another argument ensued over the ownership of a DVD player, which Clifton said was his.

The prosection then said Clifton had threatened to burn down the house in a series of phone calls.

Miss Hollingsworth called the police and in her interview, said Clifton had made further threats to burn the house down.

It was alleged he also threatened to petrol bomb the house and kick the door down to take more items when she was out.

Defending, Mr Andrew Osbourne said: “Mr Clifton denies ever making more than one threat to commit such acts.”

“He admits he made one threat but never had any intention of ever carrying it out.”

“It was just a stupid thing he said at the time, which now bitterly regrets.”

Clifton was fined £70 and also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
