Around 15 crew members attended the ‘severely damaged’ property on Gloucester Road on Sunday, 16 August, at 7.05pm.

Two appliances from Worksop Fire Station and one from Retford Fire Station were called out after an adjoining flat to where the man was living was ‘well alight’.

Police confirmed they were treating the incident as arson and said that no arrests have been made so far.

Carey Thomas, crew manager at Worksop Fire Station, said: “We broke into his house and took him out via the back exit to the car park. He was not physically trapped.”

“There was smoke coming from the roof and the windows.”

A cordon was put in place to secure the area as some residents gathered outside on the street as the flames engulfed the home.

A specialist team from East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) also attended and treated the male.

The man was in the property on his own and he did not go to hospital. He was allowed back into his flat later on.

Firefighters used a hose-reel jet, two breathing apparatus and a ventilation fan to bring the blaze under control.

The surrounding flats also suffered smoke damage.

Fire chiefs were at the scene for around two hours whilst they carried out checks and made the area safe before leaving shortly after.

No one was injured as a result of the fire.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: “No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should telephone Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 781 of 16 August. Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
