He ended up in Worksop where he met the Galloway family and teenage siblings Roger, Norma and Martin became Worksop’s first converts to the Mormon faith in more than 100 years.
Last month, Steve returned to Worksop to meet up with his old friends and other local members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, frequently referred to as Mormons.
“It was wonderful to see how the congregation has grown,” he commented.
“In those early days a handful of us met to worship in the Galloway’s front room – now there is a beautiful chapel on Sherwood Road.”
Roger was the first person Steve baptised into the Church in 1961, but he was absent from the reunion as he and his wife Janet are currently serving an 18-month mission for the Church in Wales
“We are so grateful that Elder Nuttall made that decision as a teenager to come to England,” said Roger.
“Joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints changed my life for the better, and now I have the chance to help others find the same joy.”
