Worksop: National campaigner to speak at next anti-incinerator meeting

Shlomo Dowen, national co-ordinator of UK Without Incineration (UKWIN) will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of Worksop Against Incineration (WAI) campaign group.

Mr Dowen will answer any questions people have about proposals to build a large waste incinerator on the site of the old recycling centre on Shireoaks Road in Worksop.

“UKWIN links over 200 local anti-incineration campaign groups throughout the UK,” said a WAI spokesman.

“It’s activities include liaising with Government departments over waste policy by advocating anaerobic digestion and zero-waste handling systems as alternative s incineration.”

The WAI meeting will be on Monday, 15th September at the Station Hotel on Carlton Road in Worksop at 7.15pm.

To help raise funds, WAI also be holding a coffee morning at Rhodesia Village Hall on Saturday, 27th September from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm.

“Everyone is welcome to come along to all Worksop Against Incineration campaign group meetings and events,” continued the group spokesman.

“WAI is a community-based group which exists solely to prevent the proposed waste incinerator from ever being built in Worksop.”

“The site is right next to the proposed Vesuvius development site and also next to housing estates.”
