Worksop: Norbridge Academy in line for national schools accolade

Norbridge Academy has been nominated for the national Pupil Premium Award for the second year running, after winning the regional award for the East Midlands last year.

In a letter to the school, Sam Gyimah MP described Norbridge Academy as “one of the high achieving schools in the country in terms of the attainment and progress of disadvantaged pupils since 2011.”

Mr Gyimah also praised the school for having “provided disadvantaged pupils with a good start in life and prepared them well for secondary school.”

George Huthart, head teacher at Norbridge Academy, said: “Last year we were thrilled to be named as regional winners and we are very proud that we have been nominated again this year.”

“It is a reward for the hard work our children, staff and governors continue to put in to every aspect of school life.”

Norbridge Academy uses the government’s Pupil Premium funding to support pupils by giving them the opportunity to take part in Wado Ryu Karate lessons, breakfast and after school clubs, and educational visits including residential trips to Kingswood, Hathersage and France.

The school also uses the funding to provide free school uniform to disadvantaged children, as well as individualised support for their hobbies and interests such as through guitar and piano tuition.

Mr Huthart added: “Our school belief system is to Be the Best You Can Be and this is a vision that both children and adults share. Our governors, staff and pupils are enthusiastic and dedicated and this shines through in everything we do as a school.”
