Worksop: Police make arrests for drunken disorderly behaviour on ‘Mad Friday’

Two of the arrests on 19th December were for drunk and disorderly behaviour, a third was for assault.

Officers issued two ‘directions to leave’ the town centre and staff at three venues - The Cornerhouse, Rewind and Waterfront were also breathalysing drinkers on entry.

This newspaper understands that one individual was turned away as a result of these tests.

Drug drugs and breath test equipment were used as part of Operation Abridge which is aimed at targeting alcohol and drugs-related violence.

Chief Inspector, Paul Murphy, said: “We have been using these operations to keep people safe.”

The operations underline the Alliance Against Violence campaign, following on from licensing and drugs enforcement work carried out throughout the year.

Licensing officers will also be ensuring venues adhere to safety measures such as CCTV equipment working correctly and carrying out ID checks in the future.

Insp Murphy added: “My message to revellers is; think about your safety and the safety of those around you. Be responsible for your drinking and if you are planning to bring drugs into our town, turn around and go home.”
