Mr Shahed Quraishi, Consultant Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon, is the first surgeon in Doncaster and the first ENT surgeon in South Yorkshire to receive the Silver National Award for Clinical Excellence, by the Advisory Committee on Clinical Excellence Awards.

The award, which is given every year to consultants, is in recognition of Mr Quraishi’s sustained and dedicated contribution to the NHS, over and above the standard expected of his role.

He received this award after intense scrutiny by various committees made up of medical colleagues of different disciplines, health service managers, and lay members.

Mr Quraishi said: “It is a great honour and a huge personal achievement.

“I have had the privilege to work with many excellent teams and leaders, both within Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals and across the UK. I am grateful to my colleagues and patients whose good wishes and support I cherish.”

Mr Quraishi’s application was jointly supported by Mike Pinkerton, chief executive of Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals, the Chairman of the Intercollegiate Examination Board, the chairman of the Specialty Advisory Committee and the president and secretaries of the various National ENT Speciality Associations.

Mr Pinkerton said: “This is an exceptional achievement and we are delighted and proud that Mr Quraishi has received this much-deserved award.

“The Silver Award recognises his international reputation as a clinical leader and pioneer of excellence in ENT surgery and surgical training.”
