Worksop: Proposals for Stubbing Lane children’s home build ‘warmly welcomed’ by residents

Representatives from G4S, including the company’s managing director Paul Cook, met with local residents and stakeholders at Worksop Rugby Club on TuesdayJuly 7 nd Saturday July 25 to answer questions and raise awareness about the plans.

In total, around 300 local residents were invited to the two public exhibitions, with over 40 attendees spread across both events. Background information was provided via brochures and other printed materials, with feedback forms available throughout the event.

Paul Cook, managing director of G4S Children’s Homes, said: “We are very pleased with the turnout from the local community to hear more about our plans for Meadow Holme Farm. We’ve answered a lot of questions across the two public events and have been happy to respond and reassure residents about their concerns.

“It has been hugely important and valuable to address people’s misconceptions about our planned children’s home in Worksop, especially regarding the backgrounds, maximum age and number of young people who would be looked after.

“One of the main concerns raised was about whether we had any plans to expand the property to accommodate more than five children in the future, or that children older than 18 would live there - I’m pleased to confirm that neither will ever happen.

“We will take on board all of the feedback that we have received today and use it to enhance our forthcoming planning application for the site.”

Kevin Greaves, county councillor for Worksop West, said: “I’m very glad that I was able to attend both public events, having received a number of queries from local people regarding the planned children’s home.

“Having spoken to many local residents during the two events, I would say that most people were relaxed about the idea of a children’s home at Meadow Holme Farm and are grateful to have had the opportunity to ask questions directly to the G4S Children’s Homes team.

“As a Council, we’re committed to giving looked after children the best opportunities in a positive environment, as close to their local communities as possible.”

Notts County Council has agreed with G4S Children’s Homes to provide up to 12 places in total for young people in small homes, each with no more than six beds.
