Worksop: £4m proposal at local college

The educational establishment has both a preparatory school and college, catering for pupils aged three to 18. Some students board at the premises which has eight houses.

The new student accommodation proposals are currently being considered by the local council.

The £4m project forms the first phase of the college’s developments which aim to modernise the historic buildings.

The funds will also enable the college to restore parts of the main building back to its orginal condition.

Some of the college is more than 100 years old, the East Wing being the first to be opened in 1895. The chapel opened back in 1906 and both buildings are still in use.

Plans have also been proposed for current boarding accommdation to be modernised.

A spokesperson for Worksop College said: “We’re very excited about our plans for Worksop College which include a proposal to build new student accommodation, currently being considered by the local council.”

“We believe the plans will contribute to ensuring that Worksop College offers the very best possible independent education now and in the future.”

The spokesman added: “This £4m project forms the first phase of our development which will then enable us to return parts of our historic building to their original, beautiful design whilst providing the classrooms and accommodation that are ideal for 21st Century learning.”

The college has continued to upgrade and build new facilities. In 2007 £2m was invested into Gibbs House, a building for girls at the college which was built on the former site of a rugby pitch.
